Gotcha!

Gotcha!

Numbers 32:23 ... and be sure your sin will find you out.

1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

So you think no one saw? You think you “got away with it”? You think maybe: “Well nobody was harmed in any way by what I did.”? King David thought so – and guess what happened? Yes; you guessed right; his sin caught him out – and was made public! David did a “cover-up job” and went merrily on his way – but oh the self-righteousness that he displayed! When confronted by Nathan the prophet concerning his sin, he was quick to condemn the one he supposed had done wrong – according to the “parable” Nathan presented to David – not realizing he was the object of the story. He had really believed in heart and deed that he had “gotten away with it!” But alas: his sin found him out! GOTCHA!!!

The “Law of sin and death” has never been rescinded. If you foolishly think “no one saw” – think again! God saw – and took note! The free grace of God was not a “licence to sin”; for the scriptures declare that Jesus came to save us “from” our sins; not merely from the penalty of past sins. The principle of sin is so much part of this present world – and none are able to escape it’s power and influence – except through Christ. Listen to Paul’s lament:

Romans 7:24-25 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

God didn’t save us “in our sinful state” to leave us there – but to save us “from our sins”. He provided a full salvation by which we are saved from the penalty, power and ultimately the presence of sin – eternally.

It is as we draw near to God that we become painfully aware of the stain and corruption of sin. Isaiah cried: “Woe is me…I am a man of unclean lips” when he saw the Lord. Apostle Peter cried: “Depart from me Lord, for I am a sinful man.” What your cry will be is only known to you and the Lord – but be sure there will be a cry – unless it has been dealt with and confessed in secret to the Lord. David’s cry in Psalm 51 was: “Against thee, thee only have I sinned.” No man need know our failures when we bring it to the Lord.

Jesus already bore the shame and humiliation of our sin for us on Calvary. Why would we not avail ourselves of that gracious provision and forgiveness that is available if we would but repent and turn away from it? The effects of sin in our lives cause us to do like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden – they “hid” from God. Sin always destroys fellowship and makes us hide from God as well as from our fellows. We become “false” and deceptive. We hide behind self-righteousness and self-justification. We become what Jesus called: “Whitewashed graves full of dead men’s bones.”

1John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.

What we need is come out of the dark “closet” and walk in God’s light of forgiveness – and true fellowship will immediately be restored. If we refuse to do this; GOTCHA may be just up ahead and you will walk in shame.

1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Why wait another minute? Why not go to our heavenly Father and have your peace, joy and fellowship restored?

If you refuse, be sure “your sins will find you out” – you cannot get away with it!
